Loft Conversions in London
One of the more extensive works we do here at South London Carpenters is loft conversions and loft extensions. We have provided this service among many different areas, such as Merton, Wandsworth, Wimbledon, Epsom, Mitcham, Croydon, Sutton, Coulsdon, Purley, Bromley, Fulham, Surrey, Morden and many more others that you may think of. There are many different reasons you may want to have your upstairs loft converted, such as creating a new bedroom for your growing family or to raise the property value, or even to add a study, office or games room. Others even like to add hobby rooms or another bedroom to rent out to customers for extra money. Loft conversions are very complex, difficult works as there are many factors that need to be thought of and taken into consideration before the actual construction has even begun.
To start a loft conversion there are many things to keep in mind. The first being the design and idea for the loft to be converted to. All measurements must be taken into consideration as you may not have the roof height required for your room. Some lofts may not have the headspace for your chosen design, or may not be wide enough to fit in furniture that you may like to add to your home. We must then see if the design ideas are feasible. For example, some in the past have enjoyed turning their lofts into wet rooms, while others have enjoyed creating home cinemas in theirs. If your loft does not have the required space to do so, we can either move and edit the original design to make it work, or suggest other ideas for your loft. We here at South London Carpenters will of course do our best to accommodate your loft conversion, but there it only so much we are physically able to do.
We will then begin the process of boarding your loft floor to create a fundamentally stable loft. This is a simple process that is also very easy for DIY loft converters to perform incorrectly. A stable loft flooring is very important when converting a loft, since if you forget to stagger the floor boards or even board the flooring unequally, you are looking at a very serious health and safety risk. You may also very easily get the thickness of the boards required incorrectly or the sizes of the boards wrong too. These are important, as they help insulate the room, allow heavier objects to be placed within the room and even factor into the noise pollution of your newly converted loft. Therefore, it is important to hire a professional to convert the loft.
After the boarding’s are complete and have been tested to be structurally sound, we would then begin the furniture and finishing’s of your newly converted loft. The start of this process would be the type of flooring or carpets you want placed within your loft as well as the colour scheme of the flooring, walls and room altogether. We would also need to paint or paper the walls of the loft and change the electrical fixtures of the loft too (if necessary). At this point we are also able to add lighting fixtures and natural lighting additions such as a skylight and windows. We can even create a Juliet balcony if you would like. This is up to you of course! Any colour schemes you have in mind or additions that you would like us to add to your loft conversion, just let us know and we will do so!
Finally, the last part of a loft conversion would be to add the furniture desired into the room. Now since we are carpenters, we are more than able to create furniture for you. We can create anything you would like us to, from cabinets and wardrobes to whole beds, television and computer desks and anything else. We have many master carpenters here at South London Carpenters and we are more than able to process this while the loft conversion is at its earliest stages. Just let us know as soon as possible and we will create this for you. After the furniture is done, we will add the furniture and any type of entrance into the loft (stairs, ladders, etc) and the job will be complete.
